What follows is about the city itself: what being this close changes about the quote, the notice and the kind of service that makes sense.

What a capital puts on the calendar
A state capital that is also its own county government produces a calendar you could nearly set a watch by. Agency and department functions, service clubs and chambers, school and sports banquets, church and community suppers, retirements, graduations, and the memorials and celebrations of life that a town holds for its own. Not destination events — the events a place has because people live and work in it.
It also means the person booking is frequently somebody we will deal with again: an office manager who runs the same function every year, a club secretary, a family holding the second of three events in a season. That changes what a quote has to be. It has to still make sense next year, it has to be explainable to a committee, and it has to survive a headcount that moves twice before the date.

Nine mobile catering units, a crew of up to thirty and a twenty-foot trailer are all based here. Everything the outfit owns starts its day in this city, which is why a booking across town does not have to be planned around a journey — only around your event.
It also means this is the town the business lives in rather than one it visits: the same name on the sign, on the aprons and on the sauce label. That is a different sort of accountability from a job at the outer edge of a service area, and it is the plain reason a hometown date gets looked at as carefully as it does.
What three miles actually buys you
Three miles is the entire difference between this page and the other twelve. Our printed terms add a travel fee to caters outside our immediate area; at this distance that is not a line you should expect to find on a quote. The trailer is already in the city, the crew lives here, and coming out to look at a lawn, a parking area or a doorway before the date is a short errand rather than an expedition. If you want that, ask for it.
It also makes short notice worth asking about instead of assuming. We will not promise a date we have not checked, and summer Saturdays go the way summer Saturdays go anywhere. But a mid-week function, a memorial that had to be arranged quickly, or a booking that has just lost its caterer is a different conversation here than it is at the far end of the range. Call before you decide it is too late, and the surrounding towns are close enough that the same is often true of them.
Drop-off or a crew — both work here
This is the one place on the list where a drop-off is not a compromise. Twenty people is the published minimum for it, and across town food reaches the table in the condition it left in, which is not something we would claim at thirty miles. For an office lunch, a board meeting or a small family gathering it is very often simply the right answer.
Above the 40-person floor, having the crew and the cooker on your ground is the better event, and at this distance it is easier to arrange than anywhere else we go.
